Medevac off New York

Sat Jul 07 12:56:56 CEST 2018 Timsen

US Coast Guard crews medically evacuated a 32-year-old woman suffering from abdominal pains near Breezy Point, Queens, New York, from the "Queen Mary 2" on July 6. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector New York command center received notification at approximately 6:15 p.m., stating the crewmember needed medical attention aboard the cruise ship. A conference call between the Coast Guard flight surgeon and the ship’s doctor determined that a Station New York rescue crew was the best option for an evacuation. At approximately 6:30 p.m., the 45-foot Response Boat-Medium rescue crew and FDNY arrived on scene, transferred the woman, and transported her to awaiting EMS at Coast Guard Station New York for transfer to Staten Island University Hospital. The woman’s current medical condition was unknown.

Wed Jul 04 09:15:46 CEST 2018 Timsen

A US Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod aircrew medevaced an 84-year-old woman on July 2, 2018, after she fell and sustained a fractured ankle and a head injury on the "Queen Mary 2" about 70 miles southeast of Nantucket. The crew notified Coast Guard watchstanders at around 9 a.m. of the circumstances and requested a medevac for the patient. An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at around 11:45 a.m. and hoisted the patient along with her son and a registered nurse from the ship. A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft also responded and provided communication support. The helicopter crew transported the patient and passengers to Massachusetts General Hospital. The patient was reported to be in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
