Regal Princess to feature Wärtsilä waste management solution

Tue Sep 03 09:03:28 CEST 2019 arnekiel

Marine technology manufacturer Wärtsilä is to provide an auto gasification and waste management system for Regal Princess, enabling the Princess Cruises ship to reduce her carbon emissions and waste dramatically. By using the technology, Princess Cruises can safely dispose of waste from the ship through a self-fuelling thermal decomposition unit, which will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It will also mitigate the need to offload waste at shore facilities. The auto gasification unit will replace one of the vessel’s onboard incinerators when it is delivered in January 2020.

Cruise ship rescued plane crash survivors

Wed Mar 06 11:24:37 CET 2019 Timsen

On MArch 5, 2019, the "Regal Princess" rescued two survivors of a small place crash in the Caribbean. The cruise ship was heading toward St. Thomas when the captain announced that there were two people in the water after the airplane crashed. The ship changed course to reach the site of the crash. The vessel’s crew deployed a rescue boat and retrieved a life raft and two people from the plane. The survivors were located in their life raft and waved to the cruise passengers who were cheering for them when they were rescued. The captain stated that both people were safe and doing well. The plane reportedly sank and apparently there was not a fuel slick or any debris from the crash. A Coast Guard aircraft circled over the rescue.
