Trawler released, captain under arrest

Thu Jun 27 11:52:59 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Roxen" which was seized by Russian authorities near the enclave of Kaliningrad on May 10 was released and left the port on June 25 at 5.15 p.m. The captain was still in house arrest, and the shipping company was critical of the action. To get rid of the ship, the shipping company has paid the equivalent of nearly SEK 7.6 million. Russian authorities have started a crime investigation and suspected that the Estonian captain of the "Roxen" deliberately entered and fished in Russian economic zone. The company insisted that problems with the navigation equipment were behind the "Roxen" being in the zone for about two hours.

Estonian company willing to pay bail

Thu Jun 13 12:41:34 CEST 2019 Timsen

The Estonian company Morobell, which owns the "Roxen" that was detained in the exclusive economic zone of Russia for illegal fishing, is ready to post a bail of 720,000 Euros for its release. The ship was detained by Russian border guards on May 10 on suspicion of violating fishing rules. Over 7.5 tonnes of illegally caught fish were found on A the vessel, with the damage estimated at $757,000. The probe was launched, and the vessel was escorted to Kaliningrad sea fishing port. The vessel's crew consists of four Estonian citizens living in Finland. Baum noted that he was not sure whether the Russian authorities would release the vessel once the bail was paid, since the captain had been charged with illegal fishing and the vessel could be considered as a means of committing a crime. He explained that the vessel had entered Russia's exclusive economic zone due to navigation errors.
