Seven boat people rescued in the Strait of Gibraltar
On April 18 at around 7:27 p.m., the 'Salvamar Enif' rescued five people from a toy boat in the Strait of Gibraltar. They were located 20 nautical miles from Trafalgar after maritime controllers conducted a sweep of vessels in the area, and one of them reported the boat's position after being sighted. At around 8:00 p.m., the 'Salvamar Denébola' rescued two more people 19 nautical miles from Punta Europa. The SAR boat, the SAR helicopter Helimer 220, and vessels in the area participated in the search for the inflatable kayak they were in. One of them, the tanker 'Maran Artemis' (IMO: 9753002), en route from Fos sur Mer to Algeciras, reported the sighting, giving its position and indicating that the boat had capsized and that the two occuptants were on board. They were dropped off in Algeciras.
Yacht towed to La Linea
On Sep 18, the sailing yacht 'Jaz' requested assistance because it had suffered engine failure and could not raise the sails south of the Alpha anchorage in the Bay of Algeciras. The CCS Algeciras of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the 'Salvamar Denébola', which took the boat in tow and safely pulled it to the Alcaidesa marina in La Línea..
10 migrants rescued off Punta Carnero
On Feb 18,, 2024, the 'Paxoi' reported the sighting of a patera about three nautical miles from Punta Carnero. A patrol boat of the Guardia Civil confirmed the position. The JRCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Tarifa mobilized the 'Salvamar Denébola' to the scene, and its crew took the 10 people who were on board and disembarked them in Algeciras.
