Two stowaways found on board off England

On Nov 16, at 5:45 a.m., while the 'Samira' was anchored off the east coast of England en route from Amsterdam to Flixborough, , two stowaways, a man in his 40s and one in his 20s from Albania, showed themselves on deck. It was decided to provide the men with food and warm clothing and to ask them to return to the hold. They were reassured that the ship will sail up the Trent to its port of destination thee same evening. The captain alerted the shipowner and the authorities. The shipowner called in the insurance company and the chartering office. The shipowners' association KVNR was also being asked for assistance. The 'Samira' arrived in Flixborough in the night of Nov 12 with a delay of some days. The stowaways probably spent four days and three nights in the hold. Not long after entering, four security guards came on board. The stowaways could now exchange their uncomfortable accommodation for a spare cabin. Their passports were confiscated. In the meantime, negotiations with the authorities have not progressed. The British did not want to take anyone in. The aptain demanded that the two disembark and could not accept the return journey with additional persons on board. The necessary life-saving equipment was lacking for this. Moreover, a document from the British governmen states that stowaways must be allowed on shore in situations such as this. But the authorities forced the 'Samira' to return to sea again with the Albanians and two security guards on board. They must sign that the crossing is at their own risk. On Nov 21, the 'Samira' returned safely to Amsterdam, where the stowaways finally disembarked.
