Grounded ship is being cut up

Thu May 02 11:06:22 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Sea Blue" is actually being dismantled with blowtorches and cutting tools after the ship ran aground from Hamriya Port in Dubai off the Ajman Corniche in six meter-waves in January after an engine failure. The crew of 11 was saved. The area now has been cordoned off as huge panels from its hull and cabins are removed. Diving Contractors International Salvage and Marine are carrying out the work in three phases. Phase one was the removal of all oil and other flammable liquids. Phase two involved underwater cutting, with sections of the ship winched out over the beach. The final phase involves clearing any leftover scrap and cleaning the beach. The work was expected to be completed in about 15 days mid of May. Adnan Essa, the owner of the vessel, who was supervising its removal, spent between 120,000 and 150,000 Dollar to strip the ship and will claim the money back from insurers. The scrap metal was carried to Al Nawras Metal and Scrap, also owned by Mr Essa, in Sharjah. Safety experts had recommended that the ship should be scrapped as it was too badly damaged to be properly refloated. No responsibility for grounded vessel

Tue Feb 26 11:46:50 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Sea Blue" which ran aground in Ajman over a month ago in rough seas is believed to be the ship stranded for the longest in the emirate's recent memory. It is unclear, however, whose responsibility removing the ship is. First Lt Salem Al Zaabi, head of media and public relations at the civil defence department in Ajman, said his organisation is neither responsible nor has the means for tugging boats away from shore. The Coastguard denied they have anything to do with the stranded ship. Report with photos: http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/stranded-ship-off-ajman-coast-not-going-anywhere-soon#ixzz2M07CCvUe

Beached off Sharjah and said to be dismantled

Thu Jan 17 03:31:58 CET 2013 odinfm

General cargo vessel Sea Blue ran aground morning Jan 15 13 off Sharjah, shortly after leaving Dubai, in rough weather, after the engine failed. Vessel was en route from Dubai to a number of East Africa ports. 11 crew reportedly remains on board. Local media say vessel is to be scrapped on the site, because damages are too serious to refloat her, though judging from photo of site and the vessel, , and the fact, that the crew remains on board, there is nothing extraordinary, and vessel may be refloated.
