Investigation into fatal cran collapse
On March 16, 2020, a crane collapsed along with the boom and cabin on the 'Seafox Deema' into the water while shifting pipe tools ontp a supply vessel off the Qatari coast, killing the crane operator, reportedly a 34 year old Indian national. A diving operation followed, which later confirmed the fatality. While the detailed investigation was still ongoing, from a preliminary analysis the causes of th eaccident were to be sought in the structural failure of the pedestal crane. The jack-up barge was working for Qatargas’ Barzan pipeline replacement project, when the accident happened. Seafox was the operator of the jack-up vessel that was working on a sub-contract from Saipem, the main engineering, procurement, construction and installation contractor for Qatargas’ Barzan pipeline replacement project. No damage has been reported on the topsides and subsea assets involving the Barzan project.
