Ferry converted to hospital

Italy, as the hardest hit country in Europe, takes every available opportunity to treat and corona-affected citizens. Starting on March 23, the 'Splendid' will be ready to take on the first patients.The ferry has been converted into a hospital ship during recent week and was delivered on March 19 in Genoa, where it will receive the first 25 patients. The Grande Navi Veloci (GNV) has worked closely with the class company RINA and the health authorities in Italy to prepare the ship. During one week, the 'Splendid' has been equipped with infirmary and first aid equipment, as well as 25 beds in single-family cabins, all equipped with independent external ventilation, TV and internet connection. The ship can quickly be equipped with an additional 400 beds if needed, and it is also possible to install modular units for intensive care on the car deck. MSC makes the ship available free of charge, just as neither RINA nor a number of subcontractors were payd for their work.
