Ship crew members are found without drinking water and food in the Port of Santos Officials say they have already contacted the Georgian Embassy for the repatriation of the crew. The flagrant occurred during an inspection carried out by nine agencies in Santos. By G1 Santos 29/04/2021 11h51 Updated 19 hours ago Crew members of a ship were found without drinking water available and without food at the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The flagrant occurred on Wednesday (28), during Operation Santos, carried out by nine agencies to curb crimes at sea. The inspections started on Tuesday (27) and continue until this Thursday (29). Operation Santos is coordinated by the Brazilian Navy and involves teams from the Southeast Naval Patrol Group, the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), Santos Port Authority (SPA), Anvisa, Customs Service Federal, Federal Police (Nepon), National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ), Environmental Military Police, Forestry Foundation and Brazilian Air Force (FAB). According to information from Ibama, this Wednesday (28th), the Panamanian flag ship Srakane was found without fuel and with a sewage system already saturated. About 20 crew members from Georgia were without food and drinking water on board. "Anvisa and Ibama were approaching this ship, which identifies several problems, mainly social. This vessel is abandoned by the shipowner", says federal agent Ana Angélica Alabarce, responsible for Ibama in Santos, in an interview with G1. "For this reason, the Embassy was called into action. It is expected that this Thursday there will already be waste removal and sanitary sewage." The Santos Port Authority said that the ship is outside the jurisdiction of the port authority, but participates in Operation Santos as an inspecting part of the environmental issue.

12 crew members repatriated after one year

Wed Aug 12 12:49:28 CEST 2020 Timsen

12 Ukrainian crewmembers of the 'Srakane' have returned home after a year of isolation in Sao Sebastiao. It had emerged in early June that the Ukrainian citizens were actually isolated in the port, did not receive a salary for almost a year and could not return to the Ukraine. Ukraine's consuls in the port immediately got into contact with the Brazilian authorities, promptly organized a visit to the ship and provided the necessary medical care to a Ukrainian citizen. All Ukrainian citizens received unpaid salaries during July and finally returned home successfully.
