Trawler sank, crew rescued
the 'Sainte Catherine Laboure' sank near the Rockall Bank 220 nautical miles west of Barra off the Scottish Outer Hebrides on the night of June 20, 2024. After the crew of six activated the EPIRB at 10.50 p.m., a swift rescue mission coordinated by the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Ireland was launched. Five vessels in the immediate local area were sent to assist. The fishermen were rescued from a liferaft by the Scottish fishing vessel 'Good Hope', which, upon receiving the distress signal, quickly reached the scene. The Scottish Fishery Patrol Vessel 'Jura', which was also in the vicinity, stayed alongside the stricken trawler until it finally sank. The castaways were taken to Ullapool aboard the 'Good Hope' on the morning of June 22.
Fisherman lost finger in accident
On Feb 9, 2017, a fisherman aboard the “St Catherine Lebore” was airlifted to hospital in the UK after losing a finger while at sea. The accident happened in UK waters about 130 miles south of Cork city.
