SEAFARER DIES WITH COVID-19 AMID OUTBREAK ON BULKER IN BULGARIA

A seafarer has died with COVID-19 on bulker in Bulgaria, and 11 more cases have been identified on board the 80,671-dwt Star Genesis (IMO: 9457464), Bulgaria's Maritime.bg reports citing local authorities. The COVID-19 outbreak was reported onboard a ship at the port of Burgas. The first patient had complaints from July 7 - fatigue, cough, fever. On July 14, the seafarer was transported to UMBAL Burgas for examination and examination, and a rapid antigen test for COVID-19 was performed, which was positive. He was hospitalized in the infectious ward of the medical institution. On July 15, the remaining 19 members of the ship's crew were tested. 11 members have a positive result. Instructions have been issued for the isolation of the same on the ship for a period of 14 days. Their general condition is monitored daily. Three of the positive cases are with fever and cough. The contact persons from the crew have no complaints. On July 18, the hospitalized member of the crew was taken to the OAIL of UMBAL Burgas, and died the next day. On July 19, another crew member with a positive COVID-19 test had difficulty breathing and deteriorating general condition. After an examination by a team of CSMP Burgas he was hospitalized in UMBAL Burgas. In the issued order for placing the crew under quarantine, RHI Burgas has ordered the disinfection of all premises. The case concerns a cargo ship with a crew of Filipinos. The ship arrives at the port of Bourgas on July 14 and is due to depart on July 23. The last port before Bourgas is the UAE, on June 27. On July 7-8, the ship transited the Suez Canal, which required a pilot to board the ship. The crew consists of 20 people. Health authorities are monitoring the development of the anti-epidemic situation and are exercising strict control to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. The deceased Filipino seafarer has been one of 11 crew members of the m/v Star Genesis who earlier tested positive for the coronavirus. The ship's crew consists of 20 sailors. US-listed shipowner Star Bulk Carriers have acquired Oslo-listed Songa Bulk whose fleet comprises of 15 modern bulkers (3 x Capesize bulkers, 10 x Kamsarmax bulkers, 1 x Ultramax bulker and 1 x Supramax bulker). Star Bulk will issue 13.7 mill new shares and pay USD 145 mill in cash for the fleet. China Merchants Bank Leasing will finance the cash portion of the transaction. In addition, Star Bulk have agreed to acquire 3 x Newcastlemax bulkers which are under construction at SWS with delivery in Q4 2018 and Q1 2019 from OceanBulk Container Carriers. Star Bulk will issue 3.39 mill new shares and CSSC Shipping Company will provide USD 104.4 mill to pay for the three bulkers.
