Mine from WW II dropped off again in stormy weather

On 19, 2020, around 1:40 p.m., the Maritime Operations Center (COM) of the Maritime Prefecture of the English Channel and the North Sea was alerted by the CROSS Jobourg (50), that the 'Stenaca II', which was in a fishing zone six miles east of Saint-Vaast, had caught a German bomb dating from the Second World War in its nets. The COM informed the group of mine-clearing divers (GPD) from La Manche who decided to intervene immediately. At 1:55 p.m., the COM deployed a Caïman helicopter of the French Navy base at Maupertuswith three GPD Manche personnel on board to drop them off on the fishing boat. Once aboard the 'Stenaca II', given the bad weather and the difficulty of keeping the ammunition on board, the mine-clearing divers decide to drop it back into the sea and treat it later. The ammunition was the remains of a German Navy mine type BM 1000. An urgent notice to navigation (AVURNAV) has been issued by the Marine Operations Center of the French Navy in Cherbourg to warn ships sailing and fishing in the area.
