Mediecal emergency on the Wester Scheldt

A medical emergency occurred on the morning of Oct 14, 2025, short before 9.30 a.m. aboard the 'Stolt Sincerity' on the Western Scheldt near Terneuzen in pos. in pos. 51° 24' N 003° 46' E. The ship was en route from Le Havre to Antwerp and the report came in around 9:30 a.m., while the tanker was anchoed for bunkering operations near Everingen-C. A crew member had suddenly become unwell. He was cared for by bystanders and immediately taken to the onboard hospital. Emergency services were immediately dispatched, and the Coastguard depöoyed the helicopter REscue 08, based on the Midden-Zeeland Airport, to provide assistance on board the ship. The lifeboat 'Zeemanshoop' from the KNRM station Breskens and the nearby patrol boat 'RWS 78' of Rijkswaterstaat were deployed too. The 'Zeemanshoop' transferred two crew members with medical equipment to assist. The patient was already being examined by the medical personnel of the helicopter. The conclusion was that he needed to be taken to the hospital for a checkup. At the medic's request, the 'Zeemanshoop' called the emergency dispatch center to put an ambulance on standby for transport to the hospital from the helicopter landing pad in Goes. After the patient was secured in a special harness, he was guided to the deck and then hoisted into the helicopter along with the medic. Once this was complete, the crew members returned to the 'Zeemanshoop ',and the lifeboat returned to the station. .
