On Mar 19 at 8.13 p.m. the "Giant Pescadores" was disabled while transiting the Bosphorus from Gibraltar to the Ukraine due to a mechanical problem, and the bulkcarrier "Bora" which was following close behind bulker struck the "Giant Pescadores" in the stern before drifting aground in front of Rumeli Hisar. The Vessel Traffic Center Istambul sent the rescue boats "Kurtarma 1", "Kurtarma 3", "Kurtarma 5" as well as the tugs "Kıyı Emniyeti 5" and "Kıyı Emniyeti 10". Later the "Giant Pescadores" was anchored. The "Bora was refloated and also anchored, both vessels and shore structures suffered damages.
