Three dead during SAR exercise

DDuring an exercise with the "Theo Fischer" the helicopter "Christoph Offshore 2" of the DRF Luftrettung crashed into the sea east of Darßer Ort on Feb 28, 2014, at 6.40 p.m. Two men were recovered by the "Theo Fischer", one of whom later died, and one more body later pulled out of the water. Only one pilot survived, the second and two paramadics were among the victims. The helicopter had trained hoist manoevers with the lifeboat. After one successfull manoever it suddenly crashed from 150 meters height into the calm sea. The RCC Glücksburg of the German Navy had coordinated the SAR operation follwoing the crash which involved several more lifeboats of the DGzRS, boats of the police, an SAR helicopter of the German and one more of the Danish navy and other craft. Divers were sent down from the "Theo Fischer" to investigated the wreck of the helicopter. The wreck was meanwhile raised from a depth of seven meters by the multi purpose ship "Arkona" and taken to the German Navy Base Warnemünde for investigations.
