Engine room fire in Lelystad

On Aug 2, 2025, at 11.20 p.m. a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Triangle', with six crew members on board, n the Markermeer, en route to Schokkerhaven, at the height of the Oostvaarders dike in Lelystad. The crew was unable to contain the blaze. The ship was berthed, and could be evacuated in time with no injuries reported. The fire department deployed several vehicles to extinguish the fire and got it under control within half an hour. Also the KNRM responded to the alert and dispatched a lifeboat. The damage to the engine room was extensive. The amount of smoke that was released was particularly playing a role.. The cause of the fire was unknown at this stage. After the investigations, the propulsion of the 'Triangle could be restored, and the ship was able to resume its voyage under its own power a few hours after the incident.
