Police investigating death on board after person fell from vehicle deck
The Finnish police was investigating the death of a person who fell from the vehicle deck of the 'Vikling XPRS', operating on the route Tallinn-Helsinki, on Jan 13, 2026.The vessel had arrived in the Katajanokka terminal port in Helsinki at 7:30 p.m.while a first responder vehicle was seen arriving around 20 minutes later, and firefighters, an ambulance, and police were later visible on the ship's ramp, after vehicles had already disembarked from the vessel. The 'Viking XPRS' was due to depart Tallinn at 5:30 p.m. and arrive at Helsinki's Katajanokka port at 7:30 p.m. Due to the accident, the vessel's return departure from the Katajanokka port to Tallinn was delayed by about an hour.
Passenger found dead in cabin
A body was found on board the 'Viking XPRS' at Skatudden on Dec 14, 2023, at 8 p.m. The Helsinki police was investigating the case. The notification of the find came from the ferry when it arrived at the shipping company's terminal at Skatudden. It was a passenger who had died in his cabin.
Ferry suffered technical fault on propeller shaft
The 'Viking XPRS' had to be withdrawn from the Helsinki-Tallinn route due to a technical fault on the propeller shaft. The ship will out of service from Feb 13-16. It wwas taken out of traffic on Feb 13 at 7.30 p.m. in Helsinki, and docked during the period Feb 14-16. On Feb 14 at 5 a.m. the ferry entered the Turku Repair Yard Ltd. in Naantali. On Feb 16 at 5 p.m. the ship returns to traffic in Tallinn. Viking Line assured that the technical error did not affect passenger safety before docking. The company was in contact with all travelers who were affected by the disturbance.
