Trawler distressed off Lerwick
The Danish flagged fishing vessel 'Westbank', which had sailed from Haugesund on Oct 15, 2022, started taking on water, causing engine trouble, around 60 miles east of Lerwick on Oct 19 at 12.20 p.m. The flooding could be stopped, and the crew managed to remove water using equipment on board their ship. The Shetland Castguard was looking into arranging a possible tow for the vessel as it suffered engine problems. An SAR helicopter from Norway attended the scene in the afternoon. A nearby vessel has been asked to provide support, while the Lerwick lifeboat launched shortly before 2 p.m. The HM Coastguard was coordinating the response. After the trawler crew gained control of the situation, the ship proceeded to Lerwick, where it arrived on Oct 20.
