Tanker saved yacht and crew
The yacht “Bohemia” suffered an engine failure and destroyed mainsail at north coast of Dominican Republic. The 'White Star' received a VHF distress call on Sep 25, 2023, at 15:30 LT at pos. 20 16.7’N, 070 58.0’W. The captain immediately contacted the official authorities of the Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic Army and asked the permission for a rescue operation. With the permission granted, the tanker diverted to the yacht, which was nearly 23 nautical miles away, sighting her at 4:24 p.m. During the rescue operation, the vessel first provided shelter to the yacht, then, on receiving the army instructions, proceeded fast with a line on the port quarter and dragged the yacht deliberately. A rescue boat arrived at 6:24 p.m. and helped take the yacht to the port of Luperon.
