Skeg damage delays return to service

Wed Jun 24 12:29:33 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Wolfe Islander III"’s return to service has been delayed until mid to late July 2015, because of unexpected damage found along the underside of the hull. The damage to a skeg was found and needed to be repaired. It was bent up and pushed up into the propeller unit. An inspection of the hull showed the metal was in good shape for a ship of its age. In early April, the "Wolfe Islander III" left Kingston and sailed for dry dock in Hamilton for its scheduled five-year maintenance. The ferry also receivde a new wheelhouse and renovations to the passenger and engine room compartments. The work was originally to be completed and the ferry back in service by the end of June.
