Engine failure disabled bulkcarrier

Tue Mar 13 09:39:28 CET 2018 Timsen

The "AM Krakow" suffered engine falure, enroute from Cartier to Ghent, about 36 miles South of Shoreham, in pos. 50 17 N 00 22 E, on March 11. The vessel was drifting at 303 deg with a speed of 0.7 knots. No assistance was requested or organised at this time. The French Coast Guard has requested the vessel to anchor as soon as possible. The vessel has agreed to anchor, once it was clear of the unknown wreck, towards which it was drifting close to. The bulkcarrier finally anchored in pos. 50 19 49.2N, 000 27 41.8W right on the SAR Demarcation line between UKSRR and French SRR. The crew was awaiting delivery of a spare part for repairs. The ship had a crew of 21 on board and a cargo of 78,370 metric tonnes of iron ore pellets along with 135 tonnes of High Sulphur Fuel Oil, 167 metric tonnes of Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil and 3o tonnes of Lube Oil. The weather on scene was Beaufort 4 or 5 becoming cyclonic 5 to 7 with a forecast of Westerly winds of 5 to 7, occasionally 8 Beaufort, then backing southwest 4 or 5. On March 13 the Malta-flagged offshore-tug „Onyx“ (IMO-No.: 9752400) proceeded towards the casualty. On March 14 the "AM Krakow" was underway again after the crew fixed the trouble.

Men lost consciousness in bilge

Mon May 04 21:59:10 CEST 2015 Timsen

On May 4, 2015, around 3: 30 p.m. a crew member of the "Am Kraków" lost consciousness and had to be medevaced by the GRIMP from Fort-Mardyck. The 20 years old sailor was working in bilge in the afternoon, while the crew of the "Am Krakow" was preparing the ship to sail for Baltimore, and lost consciousness. But he regained consciousness and reached the foredeck from where he was taken off and delivered to the Hospital in Dunkerque.
