H-Line Shipping of South Korea is back in the market, sniffing at capesize candidates. H-Line has offered $16.3m and fixed terms for the 176,000 dwt Cape Aria from Cyprus’s Universal Tanker Management. The deal comes with a three-year time charter attached.

Bunker stolen from bulk carrier

39 metric tonnes of low sulfur MGO were reported to have been stolen from the "Nord Power" while it was in the Tianjin outer anchorage on Jan 1, 2016, according to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre (ICS). While at anchor, the watchman while on roving patrol found the diesel oil storage tank port manhole cover nuts were off the stud bolts. Tank sounding and quantity check was conducted and upon investigation, they found that about 39 metric tonnes of low sulfur MGO was stolen from the storage tank. The theft came mere days after the vessel owner Dampskibsselskabet Norden A/S (Norden) had announced that they had sold the vessel, which took place on Dec 28, 2015 to Greece-based Phoenix Energy Navigation, and was handed over to its new owners in February who renamed the ship "Maritime Power". The robbery was the third such incident that has happened to the vessel owner Norden in Asian waters within one yard. On Oct 5, 2ß16, while at the Belawan anchorage in Indonesia, the "Nord Supreme" was boarded by three perpetrators. Less than a day later, the "Nord Swift", which was located in the Sandakan anchorage in Malaysia, was boarded at about 6:30 a.m. local time.

Norden Sells Capesize Bulker at $12 Million Loss

Danish shipping company Norden says it has sold a 10 year old capesize bulk carrier for a loss, allowing the company to focus more on smaller vessel types that are at the core of its business. Norden announced the sale Monday, saying it has agreed to sell the the 176,000 dwt Nord Power, which will entail an accounting loss of $12 million to be included in its annual results for 2015. The company said that while the does come at a loss, it expects to reinvest the proceeds into additional tonnage in supramax and panamax vessel types, where Norden is one of the world’s largest operators.
