Medevac off Fuerte Ventura
Because of health problems, a crew member of the 'Heron Hunter', en route from Algeciras to Cotonou, needed to be medevaced by helicopter to the hospital in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria in the morning of Nov 3, 2021. The ship was about 61.2 kilometers southeast of Fuerte Ventura and 159.3 kilometers from the airport on Gran Canaria when the captain contacted the Coast Guard of the Canary Islands and requested an urgent medical transfer. A helicopter was then dispatched to take the crew member off. The 30-year-old man was hoisted aboard, and at 02:32 a.m. delivered at the heliport of the Dr. Negrín Hospital waiting in Las Palmas. They took the man to the emergency room.
