Medevac off Port Elizabeth

Tue Nov 04 09:37:16 CET 2014 Timsen

On Nov 3, 2014, at 03.15 oa.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth were alerted to reports of a 27 year old man from India, suffering a pelvic injury, with suspected internal bleeding, following a fall aboard the "Chambesy" which was sailing from Richards Bay to Rotterdam, heading now towards the nearest Port of call, Port Elizabeth, and requiring the patient to be evacuated to hospital. Once the ship neared Port Elizabeth, at 09.15 a.m., an NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew was activated and the NSRI sea rescue craft "Spirit of Toft" was launched. On arrival on-scene two nautical miles off-shore, the patient, walking wounded, was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought into our Port where the ships agent transported the patient to hospital for further treatment.
