Freighter in rescue mission for 36 migrants - child of five died despite medevac

On June 28, 2021, the 'Cape Tawelaa' rescued 36 migrants about 500 kilometers off the Canaries and notified the Gran Canaria Coat Guard. As the SAR boat 'Guardamar Talía' would have reached the position only after midnight, the cargo ship took the castaways, among them six children and 16 women, on board. One person was recovered dead and one child in need of immediate medical care. The ship diverted to Tenerife where it rendezvoused with an SAR helicopter whch medevaced the five year old child which collapsed and could not be resiscutated. During the night, on the whole three persons were taken off and transported to the Hospital Dr. Negrín upon Gran Canaria.

K Line Ships First Bauxite to UAE Under Long-Term Contract

The first vessel under K Line’s long-term shipping contract with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) arrived to the port of Khalifa, UAE on June 23. The 183,123 dwt Capesize vessel Cape Taweelah has brought a cargo of bauxite in bulk from the loading port at Kamsar, Guinea. The ship’s arrival marked the first memorable visit of a fully-laden Capesize vessel at a GCC port, according to the parties.
