Allision in Oslo
The "Christian Radich", upon its arrival from Skagen, allided with a dock at the Sukkerbiten i Bjørvika in Oslo on Aug 19, 2019 ,at 6.30 p.m.. The ship couldn't stop when approaching the quay because of the wind. The vssel suffered a small breach in the bow at starboard side above the water line which needed to be repaired. No one was injured. The damage to the ship was estimated to be around 50.000 Norwegian Crowns. Also the quay suffered damage which was not yet assessed. Tall Ship Christian Radich visits Damen Shiprepair Harlingen for repairs and refit work
The fully-rigged sailing ship Christian Radich has departed Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSHl) following five weeks of repairs and maintenance. The Norwegian-flagged, 63-metre, three-master is not only used as a training ship for young Norwegians, she also undertakes cruises and races with paying guests.
Medevac off Esbjerg
On March 21, 2017, an EH101 Merlin helicopter of a Danish base in Skrydstrup medevaced 16-year-old student of the Maritime Academy in Harlingen from the "Christian Radich" 110 miles off the Danish coast. The boy had fallen, and his head had suffered a hard push so that he went unconscious. The skipper required the transfer to a hospital required. When the helicopter arrived at the ship there was 35 knots of wind, and the vessel had problems to steer a steady course. The three-rigged masts of the ship which was rolling and bobbing swere in the way. For the helicopter pilot it was an absolute challenge too get as close as possible to the stern to establish a line connection. After several unsuccessful attempts a member of the helicopter crew finally could descend onto the ship and ensured that the evacuation could take place successfully. The boy was hoisted and taken to the hospital in Esbjerg.
