Vehicles carrier returned to South Korea due to stink bugs

Tue Jan 09 09:46:24 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Glovis Caravel' with thousands of Teslas and Kias as cargo on board, has been sent back to South Korea to undergo a thorough cleaning after the so-called yellow-spotted stink bug was found on board upon the arrival in Australia. The yellow-spotted stink bug poses a threat to the biosecurity of native Australian agriculture and wildlife. The insect can cause damage to agricultural crops, fruit and ornamental trees. However, a limited number of Teslas were unloaded after they had been checked for vermin. The cars were sent to showrooms and delivered to customers. The 'Glovis Caravel' arrived back at the port of Pyeongtaek on Jan 7, 2024. It is not the first time that the ship has been turned back due to stink bugs. In 2018, entry to New Zealand was already refused after 600 of these insects were found on board, 12 of them alive. Two years later, in 2020, a cargo of 10,000 Hyundais and Kias were also returned because of the stink bug.
