The four pirates who are on board the 'Esbern Snare' may end up being left in a boat with supplies on the high seas, if they do not succeed in concluding an extradition agreement, and Denmark does not want to prosecute them at home. The Minister of Defense, Trine Bramsen, stated: "There is equipment that allows people to be dropped off at the naval border if the legal task force and the Danish authorities assess that it is the right thing to do". The Folketing has given the Armed Forces a mandate to choose this option. The announcement comes after the pirates have now been on the warship for more than a week. The fact that one of the pirates was badly wounded makes it more difficult to simply put the pirates off in a boat close to a territorial boundary, without risking his life. Another question then is what to do with the bodies of the four pirates killed. The bodies are also still on board the frigate in a refrigerated container, under what the Armed Forces describes as dignified conditions. This problem can be solved by burying them at sea, for which there is a long tradition. An inter-ministerial group is still working to negotiate an extradition agreement.
