Russia banned ships from entering and leaving port at night due to fear of Ukrainian attacks

Russia has temporarily banned ships from entering and leaving the port of Novorossiysk at night in response to Ukrainian drone attacks. Russia imposed the restrictions, which run from midnight to 5 a.m. The port continued to operate normally outside those hours.The order was verbal, and authorities sent no official documents to shippers. Novorossiysk is Russia’s largest port by cargo turnover. It handles about a third of the country’s grain exports, along with oil and other cargo. On July 21, Russia’s Transport Ministry banned ships from anchoring near the approaches to the seaports of Azov (Rostov region) and Kavkaz (Krasnodar Krai) in areas not covered by air defense systems.

Major oil spill due to damages suffered

New satellite imagery from April 6 has revealed a significant environmental and industrial crisis unfolding at the Sheskharis Oil Terminal in Novorossiysk. A dark trail was visible extending from the loading docks into the Black Sea, indicating a major breach in pipeline or storage infrastructure. There was also heavy damage to multiple loading berths following reported strikes earlier the week. As one of Russia’s primary export hubs for crude oil, the paralysis of this terminal marked a critical hit to regional energy logistics. Beyond the strategic implications, the spill was posing an immediate threat to the Black Sea ecosystem. Local containment efforts appeared to be hampered by the extent of the damage to the pier facilities.

Russian warship and defence systems in Novorossyisk allegedly destroyed

According to Ukrainian sources, a Russian warship and six air defense systems were eliminated by Ukraine's Defense Forces over the past 24 hours, the AFU General Staff reported on March 3. Ukraine was believed to have hit the Russian frigate 'Admiral Essen' during the drone attack on the city of Novorossiysk on the night of March 1-2. Russia has used the ship to launch Kalibr cruise missiles at targets in Ukraine. Russia lost approximately 790 soldiers over the past day. The Ukrainian forces targeted several critical assets: - One Russian vessel was confirmed destroyed. - Six air defense systems were neutralized. - 47 artillery systems, 5 tanks, and 20 armored combat vehicles were liquidated. - 235 units of automotive equipment and fuel tankers were destroyed. The reported maritime and air defense losses follow a large-scale special operation on March 2. Sources in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed that drones from the Alpha Special Operations Center, in coordination with other branches of the Defense Forces, attacked military and oil infrastructure in the port of Novorossiysk. Preliminary data from the SBU indicated the following targets were hit: - The 30N6E2 guidance radar of the S-300 PMU-2 Favorit system; - A Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft missile and gun system; - Six of seven oil-loading racks at the Sheskharis oil terminal.
