Engine room fire off Taman
On Jan 23, 2022, a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Al Muntazah' in the Black Sea about eight nautical miles east of Taman. The seven crew members were initially evacuated onto the tug 'Merkuriy', (IMO: 7391692) , but later returned to the ship. The tanker had 700 tons of heavy fuel as cargo on board. The fire could be restricted to the engine room. Three tugs and thr SAR ship 'Spasatel Demidov' responded to the tanker, which was moored about 2.2 kilometres from the coast. There were no open flames, but black smoke was coming out of the vents.
