Captain intended to head to sea with abducted inspectors
The 'Arina 1' was ordered to an anchorage at Chios, where it remained moored in pos. 38° 23.76' N 026° 11.19' E as of Feb 10. The abducted men have been taken ashore. The three told the police that they had been held against their will on the ship. The three - a Filipino captain and two engineers - had boarded the ship in Turkey because they had to inspect it for a possible buyer. Captain arrested for abducting three inspectors
The captain of the 'Arina 1' was arrested by a Special Missions Unit of the Greek Military after they boarded the tanker on Feb 10, 2024, for abducting three people. The shuo was ordered to divert to the anchorage at Chios, where the Special Missions Unit boarded the vessel with automatic rifles drawn and began to search the ship. The team took the captain, the chief engineer, and the three people who were allegedly being held against their will, ashore. After questioning, the captain was arrested on charges of abducting a Filipino captain, a Filipino engineer, and a Greek engineer. The three men had come aboard the vessel as inspectors for a buyer. The three abductees reported that the captain had signed them on as an oiler and cleaner against their will to meet crew requirements. The captain then set sail to escape the ParisMoU ban on the vessel that prevented it from calling at European ports. As of Feb 13, the ship was moored in pos. 38° 24.00' N 026° 11.08' E.
Tanker seized as restitution for collision damage
The 'Port Stanley' was seized on Nov 1, 2019, by the Singapore Supreme Court on behalf of the SK Shipping, as it was seeking restitution for a collision damage caused to its tanker 'C. Spirit' (IMO: 9643269). On Nov 19 the ship remained stationary at its mooring on the Singapore South Anchorage in pos. 01° 13.21' N 103° 48.39' E.
