Cruise ship wedged against pier
Stormy winds have battered Victoria with the "Astor" being wedged up against the Station Pier at St Kilda in Melbourne on Feb 19, 2018. A severe weather warning was in place for damaging winds of up to 100km/h in Melbourne's eastern suburbs and elevated areas including the Yarra Ranges by the Bureau of Meteorology. Tugs had to assist the "Astor" which was blown onto the edge of Station Pier at St Kilda in the evening. The ship meanwhile left port and headed to Hobart. Sick woman medevaced after two days
A sick 86-year-old woman had to wait for two days aboard the "Astor" north east of Great Barrier Island before a helicopter was able to reach her. The "Astor" was en route from the Pacific Islands to Auckland, but only came into flying range in the morning of Nov 27, 2015. A Whangarei-based rescue helicopter was sent out to the ship, stopping on Great Barrier Island to refuel before meeting the ship about 270 kilometres off the shore. A paramedic was dropped onto the ship, he assessed the patient and put her on to a stretcher. After she was hoisted, the helicopter returned, via Great Barrier Island to refuel and on to Auckland Hospital.
Lock trouble caused another cruise ship delay
On Apr 20, 2013, the "Astor“ passed the Kiel Canal with a delay of five hours enroute Sylt-Copenhagen. The ship had to wait for five hours off the Brunsbüttel locks due to the lock failure and a lot of traffic. The ship could enter the locks only at 1 p.m. and reached Kiel at 9 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. as scheduled. The "Astor" finally berthed at the Langeline Quay in Copenhagen on Apr 21 at 8.15 a.m. German Report with photo: http://www.kn-online.de/Schleswig-Holstein/Nord-Ostsee-Kanal/Astor-musste-lange-wartenNews schreiben
