Bremen Express Loses Containers at Sea

Sat Dec 24 15:13:25 CET 2016 arnekiel

During a repair stop on Dec. 19 on the Atlantic, the “Bremen Express” (8,750 TEU) experienced rolling for reasons yet to be determined. As a result, some containers fell overboard. The ship, which operates in the CEC service and was located roughly 1,400 nautical miles west of Europe when the incident occurred, was and is not in danger. The 336-meter-long “Bremen Express,” built in 2008, was able to continue sailing after reporting the incident to the responsible authorities. It will call at a port in the Mediterranean in order to be inspected before passing through the Suez Canal on its journey to Asia. Ship is safe and continuing voyage. No persons injured. Causes to be investigated.

Coconuts on fire

Fri Dec 19 09:36:41 CET 2014 Timsen

Coconuts in one of the containers on board of the "Bremen Express", which was docked at Global Terminal on the Jersey City/Bayonne, New York, caught fire on Dec 18, 2014, around 2 p.m. The fire also spread to the next container. Jersey City Fire Department land and marine units were engaged in firefighting, extinguishing the fire by 5.30 p.m. Both containers were offloaded and placed on a pier. The flames on the second container had not spread to its contents. Jersey City Fire Department land and marine units put out the fire and hazmat equipment was brought to the scene while officials were trying to determine what was inside the burning containers. The coconut charcoal is used as a flavoring. The cause of the fire appears to have been accidental.
