Cruise cancelled due to strike
The 'Carnival Liberty' will not be returning to service as scheduled after its dry dock stay. Recent changes have led to the unexpected cancelation of its July 6, 2025, sailing from New Orleans. Guests booked on the now-canceled voyage received email notifications. The change in plans was due to a worker’s strike at the shipyard in Cádiz. After negotiations with strikers, the ship was moved to the Chantier Naval de Marseille on June 22 with an ETA as of June 24 in order to complete the trfurbishment work. The canceled voyage was a 7-night Bahamas itinerary from New Orleans, with scheduled stops at Key West, Freeport, and Nassau. The July 13 sailing – a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary – remained on schedule. - Full Refunds: All booked guests will automatically receive a full refund for their cruise fare, port taxes, and any pre-paid add-ons, such as gratuities, internet connectivity, drink packages, and shore tours. Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment. - Future Cruise Credit (FCC): In addition to the full refund, Carnival is providing a 100% future cruise credit (FCC) for the cruise fare. This credit must be redeemed no later than June 30, 2026, and can be used on any Carnival cruise, allowing guests to rebook on any ship, homeport, itinerary length, or sailing date. - Airfare Reimbursement: Carnival will also reimburse guests up to $200 per person for non-refundable airfare or air change fees, provided supporting documentation is submitted for consideration.
Medevac and propulsion issue delayed cruise ship
The 'Carnival Liberty' was delayed in its return to New Orleans, Louisiana, after diverting to disembark an ailing passenger and then developing propulsion issues soon after. While the ship was initially supposed to dock on Dec 1 at 8 a.m. LT, it finally reached the port at midnight UTC. The ship originally called on Key West, Florida, as the first stop of the sailing on Nov 26. Due to a medical emergency onboard, the vessel circled back on Nov 29 to allow the passenger to receive urgent treatment from a local hospital. The ship developed propulsion issues after the diversion, which has caused the sailing speed. Carnival’s engineers were hard at work to address the issue. The other two calls on the itinerary on Freeport and Nassau took place on Nov 27 and Nov 28, before the medical evacuation and propulsion issues occurred.
Two medevacs off Louisiana
The US Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman on Oct 20, 2024, from the 'Carnival Liberty'. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report on Oct 19 from the cruise ship of the man with stroke-like symptoms while the ship was sailing approximately 55 miles southeast of Southwest Pass, Louisiana. On Oct 20, watchstanders received a report from the cruise ship of a 30-year-old woman with appendicitis-like symptoms while transiting near Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Watchstanders coordinated the launches of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to conduct the medevacs for both people. The aircrews arrived on-scene for each report respectively and transported them to University Medical Center to awaiting emergency medical services personnel. The man and woman were both last reported in stable condition. Report with video: https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/3940776/coast-guard-medevacs-two-off-louisiana-coast/
