Grounding off Sunderland

The' Cellus', enroute from Karlshamn, ran aground just after having passed through the piers in Sunderland, blocking the entrance to the port and the River Wear on thr morning of Dec 19, 2025. Tugs from the Tees and Tyne were sent to refloat the vessel, which was transporting paper products, and it later docked at Greenwell's Quay in the port. There were no reports of pollution and no injuries. On Dec 20 the ship left again en route to Södra i Mönsterås,, where it arrived on Dec 23. The 'Cellus' remained stationary at the port of Glückstadt as of May 14 due to the broken gear rings of the gearbox, which needed to be replaced. The Dutch company that manufactures the spare parts is taking a long time. The ship was expected to remain at its current berth until mid-July. The gears were already finished last week, but the parts didn't pass quality control, during which stress cracks were discovered, likely caused by the gears cooling down. The damage will definitely be in the seven-figure range – a considerable sum." Whether and how much of this will be covered by insurance has not yet been determined. The fire departments from Glückstadt and Kollmar as well as the rescue service have held several exercises on the freighter in recent weeks. Repairs of the 'Cellus' were finally completed on July 18, and the ship left the port en route to Karlshamn, where it arrived on July 19 and continued to Södra Monsteras on July 21.
