Complicated recovery in Livorno

A worker was injured in a work accident in Livorno at the Valessini gate in the Varco Valessini area on Jan 25, 2021, at about 3.00 p.m. The port worker had worked in a hold about 15/18 meters deep when he was hit by a bale that fell from about ten meters. A team from the power station went to the site together with the ladder truck and the Speleo Alpino Fluviale (SAF) team. Because of the strong wind it was impossible to hoist him on deck. Also the first attempt with the crane on the quay and the second attempt with the fire engine ladder failed. At 4.30 p.m.the SAR team descended with the ropes and the stretcher into the hold. Around 6.00 p.m. after a difficult recovery, the man was entrusted to the care of the 118 doctor, who had already intervened to stabilize the person who was suffering from thoracic and abdominal trauma. On the spot was personnel of the harbour master's office, SVS, state police and Usl port authority.
