Gas driven ship escaped explosion after bridge allision

On Apr 18, 2016, at 11.30 p.m the "Greenstream", 2870 ts (EU-No.: 02335315), allided with the central arch of the road bridge Schweich on the Mosel. The port side on tanker siffered significant damage. The structures of the ship were dented on a length of about 40 meters. Pipes on the main deck leading to one of the takns of the gas driven ship were seriously damaged by the bridge arch. Due to fortunate circumstances, there was no outlet of the propellant gas and thus no explosion in the collision. At the pillars of Mosel bridge concrete was chipped off at the central arch to a considerable extent. The damage to the bridge was reviewed by the State Office for Mobility. It was found out that the damage did not have significant effects on the stability of the Bridge so the bridge and river had not to be barred for vehicles or ship traffic. The Water Police Trier detained the ship until it has been declared seaworthy. It docked at the Gebr. Kooiman B.V. repair yard in the Zwin Port of Zwijndrecht on May 4. First 100% LNG Powered Barge on Maiden Voyage Into Germany

The Greenstream, the world's first 100% LNG powered barge has been delivering liquid fuels along the Rhine river in The Netherlands for several months. This summer it expanded its range into Germany. In Spetember, it was joined by its sister ship, the Greenrhine.

LNG Powered Tanker goes Into Operation between Rotterdam & Basel

Shell has put two liquefied natural gas (LNG) only powered inland shipping tankers into operation sailing between Rotterdam and Basel, saying that it is not just a first for Shell in the Netherlands, but also for the inland shipping industry. The LNG powered barge, Greenstream, has been built and designed at Peters Shipyards in The Netherlands and will be managed by the Dutch based Interstream Barging (ISB). This is the first of two new LNG powered barges to be chartered by Shell.
