Engine overheated due to defective engine room blower

The 'Grande Napoli' suffered an overheating of the main engine due to a defective engine room blower en route from Valencia to Southampton with 2644 vehicles as cargo and a crew of 26 on board in position 50 29 08 N, 001 06 07 W on Sep 23, 2019, at 9.40 p.m. The crew waited for the manifold to cool down before investigating the cause. Local tug assistance was requested by the owners. It was estimated that the repairs would take five to six hours to get completed. The vessel reportedly dropped anchor in an aggregate dredging area for this purpose. The tug 'Apex' went on standby at the Fawley oil Refinery if assistance was required by vessel. The Southampton Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) were monitoring the situation. After the crew had rectified the engine problem the ship resumed the passage into Southampton and berthed at RoRo Terminal 103 on Sep 25 at 3.50 a.m.
