Freighter assisted in rescue of yacht crew
The 'Amatrice' assisted in the rescue of four 24 year old men who got in distress with their sailing yacht in the morning of Jan 16, 2021, off Oristano. The yacht suffered water ingress, engine and rudder failure in stormy seas 30 nautical miles west of the Gulf of Oristano. A patrol boat of the Italian Coast Guard was deployed, and the ‘Amatrice‘, which was nearby on its voyage from Djen Djen to Oristano, diverted to the position. Around 11 a.m. its crew located the yacht and transmitted the exact position to the patrol boat. This arrived on scene short time later and rescued the yacht crew. Their boat sank soon after.
