Wake and suction of speeding vessel damaged boats in Emden
On the night of Jan 19, 2026, the 'HBC Achiever' damaged several pleasure boats while exiting the large sea lock towards the inner port of Emden. The suction and strong wake created by the ship caused significant damage to the boats belonging to a local recreational boating club. The 43-year-old first officer of the vessel had exited the lock at excessive speed, according to the investigations of the water police. The exact circumstances of the incident were still unclear. The ship remained stationary in port as of Jan 20.
