Fire in scrap cargo
A fire broke out in the cargo holds of the "Hong Yan" on Nov 12, 2015, at 2 a.m., after she had docked in the Kawasaki port of Yokohama, coming from Kisarazu. The vessel was loaded with 600 tons scrap, which caught fire. Fire fighting teams and firefighting boats and a patrol boat of the Yokohama Coastguard were on scene and tried to tackle the fire, while the ship started to lean over to starboard side against the quay under the weight of the water. The crew of 10 of Vietnamese, China and Bangladesh nationality were all safely evacuated.
