Engine trouble off Start Point

The 'Irenes Remedy', while en route from Hamburg to Casablanca, with 22228 tonnes of cargo and 22 crew members on board, had to anchor due to an engine fault 27 nautical miles southeast of Start Point in position 50 01 06 N, 003 08 21 W, on March 9, 2020, at 2.30 p.m. The crew carried out repairs and resumed the voyage at 6 p.m. with an ETA as of March 12.

Containers with inflammable goods damaged

A crisis unit has been established by the Moto Uta port of Papeete due to two damaged containers containing potentially flammable materials, which had arrived coming from Balboa in the evening of Feb 23, 2017, aboard the "Irenes Remedy". A security zone was established. The boxes were being closely monitored in the Motu Uta customs zone. The first container had a leak and could be losing methanol, the second contained gas and was damaged during the operations carried out in the night during the loading and unloading operations. It was decided to take the first container off. The containers were being sprayed with seawater to be cooled. State civil security services were mobilized in support of local staff to assess the situation. The containers were not destined for French Polynesia.
