Arrested in Libya for fuel smuggling
Freighter Levante was arrested by Libyan coast guard on Apr 3 13 shortly after leaving Zuara, bound for Valetta, on suspicion of smuggling fuel from Libya to Malta. Some 400 tons of contraband diesel fuel for found, plus empty containers. It is understood, that the fuel was in barrels. Libyan news agency LANA reported vessel was arrested after the authorities received an information from unidentified source. Documents found on board indicate vessel was involved in at least four more smuggling operations. Crew consists of seven Egyptians, who are presently held on board, and one passenger – maybe passenger, maybe a person involved in smuggling. Vessel was taken to Tripoli, as of Apr 9 vessel still is in Tripoli.
