Ageing ferry broke down again
On Oct 5, 2021, the 'Loch Dunvegan' broke down for the second time in three weeks due to an engine problem. The issues hittthe main engine in the morning, and the ship was taken out of the services on the five-minute route from Colintraive to Rhubodach for repairs to the rear main engine. The ship came back into service in the afternoon after a sea trial to test the repair.
Ferry twice halted by mechanical troubles
Ferry services between Colintraive and Rhubodach at the north end of Bute returned to normal at the end of the morning peak on Aug 22, 2011, after the "Loch Dunvegan" was twice struck down by mechanical woes. A fault with the starter motor on one of the engines caused the cancellation of sailings across the east Kyle from the start of service on Aug 21 until a relief ferry, the much smaller "Loch Riddon", arrived from Largs at 2.45 p.m. After repairs were completed, the "Loch Dunvegan" returned to service at around 7.30 p.m. and completed the scheduled sailings for the day. However, mechanical trouble struck the "Loch Dunvegan" again at the start of service at 5.30 a.m. on Aug 22 due to a fault with the fuel pump serving the vessel’s other engine. The "Riddon" was called from Largs once again, but the fault on the "Loch Dunvegan" was fixed by 8.30 a.m., and normal service resumed.
