Crew to be fined for sea pollution

Sun Apr 22 16:06:10 CEST 2018 Timsen

The crew of the "Kirkella" was observed while they threw waste overboard on Apr 17, 2018 by a Norwegian Coast Guard surveillance aircraft on a control mission in the Barents Sea. Several objects were flowing around the ship. A surveillance camera filmed the crew throwing several objects straight into the sea. The Coast Guard immediately reported the incident to the Norwegian Maritime Directorate. On Apr 19 and 20, inspectors boarded the "Kirkella" after she docked in Tromsø. The directorate's lawyers were now considering a reaction to the company.. They have checked papers and talked with the crew. There was the opportunity to provide infringement fees, depending on how serious they consider the violation. These fees usually range from anywhere between $ 30,000 to $ 500,000 for the most serious violations. Norwegian report with video: https://www.tv2.no/a/9812992/
