Engine trouble off Bosphorus
The 'MSC Maria Saveria' suffered an engine malfunction at the entrance of the Bosphorus in the morning of Jan 31, 2021. The ship was enroute from King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia to Gemlik. The captain of the ship reported the breakdown by radio to the Çanakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services Directorate. The tugs 'Kurtarma 6' and 'Kurtarma 10' of the Coastal Security General Directorate were sent to the ship which had dropped anchor off Kumkale. Ships transiting the Strait were also informed and asked to be cautious. At noon the power was partially restored, but the shipwas not allowed to continue the transit. As of 12.30 p.m. the ship was moving back towards the Aegean Sea and taken to a safe area outside the strait.
