Cruise ship rescued six fishermen
The "MSC Preziosa" carried out a rescue operation off the Brazilian coast on Nov 20, 2023. A fishing boat with seven people on board got into distress in the waters near Ilha Grande off Rio de Janeiro due to a storm and sank. The cruise ship changed course to head to the scene of the accident after an emergency call. Six of the seven shipwrecked people were rescued from the Atlantic waters. One fisherman died in the accident. The port authority had previously carried out a search for the missing people together with the Brazilian Navy. Those rescued received medical care on board the cruise ship and were then brought ashore in Vila do Abraão on Ilha Grande. There they received further care in a hospital, while the cruise ship continued its voyage to the port of Santos near São Paulo.
Medevac off Ouessant
On Oct 1, 2023, at 7:45 p.m., following a request by a doctor on board, the CROSS Corsen initiated the medical evacuation of a 68-year-old man from the 'MSC Preziosa' 27 nautical miles west of Ouessant. A Caiman helicopter from the 33F flotilla from the Lanvéoc-Poulmic naval air base was dispatched to the site, taking on board a medical team. The 'MSC Preziosa' was heading towards the coast. The helicopter arrived in the area at 8:45 p.m., the patient is taken care of at 9:30 p.m. He was then transported to the Brest Guipavas airport, and then taken care of by an ambulance.
28 Covid-19 cases on board
Passengers on the 'MSC Preziosa' had to wait more than six hours to disembark at Rio de Janeiro on Jan 2, 2022, due to an inspection by Brazilian health authorities that confirmed 28 cases of COVID-19 on board - 26 passengers and two crew members. Among those who tested positive, people living in Rio or the nearby region could quarantine themselves at home. Others must first isolate in hotels. After the inspection, the 'MSC Preziosa' was authorized by federal health regulator Anvisa to continue operating. Other passengers were waiting to embark for Bahia.
