Crew members on hunger strike after repatriation flight was cancelled
After the repatriation flight of more than 100 Indian crew members aboard the 'Noordam' was cancelled on June 20, 2020, four of them went on a hunger strike on the ship off Manila. The sailors have been stranded on sea for more than 90 days. The flight was cancelled as Mumbai airpoirt was scheduled to receive a number of such flights during June 20-26 which would put more pressure on the quarantine facilities.
Medevac off Cordova
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrew, forward deployed to Cordova, mmedevaced a passenger from the "Noordam" near Cordova on Sep 7, 2919, who was experiencing chest pains. The cruise ship was approximately 125 nautical miles southeast of Cordova at the time of the request.The 72-year-old male passenger and the ship’s nurse were hoisted by an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopterand taken to Cordova for a wing-to-wing transfer with a Guardian Flight team.
Medevac off Juneau
The US Coast Guard and Capital City EMTs medevaced a man from the "Noordam" near Juneau on sep 27, 2018. The Coast Guard received the initial request at about 9:20 a.m. from the master of the cruise ship , to medevac the 74-year-old man aboard experiencing heart attack symptoms. A boat crew launched from Juneau, with EMTs aboard from Capital City Fire and Rescue. The Coast Guard and Capital City crew met the "Noordam" on the southern end of Auke Bay near Juneau where the patient was transferred. Once in Juneau, he was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital.
