Tanker Causes Oil Spill in Chile

Fri Sep 26 09:19:15 CEST 2014 arnekiel

An oil spill has been reported at Quintero Bay, Nr Valparaiso, Chile, following an incident on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at the Monobuoy Terminal when the MT Mimosa cut off hoses and cargo connection, resulting in a spill of around three cubic meters at sea. Following the incident, ENAP (terminal owners) in coordination with the National Maritime Authority of Chile deployed a team of expert environmental personnel to mitigate the impact on the environment, by employing absorbent sleeves and installing barriers with an 800 meters extension. Concurrently, an investigation was established with the involved stakeholders to determine the causes of this incident. The oil spill teams are continuing with the environmental clean-up and where affected, vessels will continue to be cleansed before departure. Port operations have not been stopped but currently the ENAP terminals Monobuoy, Multibuoy and LPG are not working. Source: The Maritime Executive

Tanker FR8 Pride damaged in collision remains anchored off Port Aransas coast

Tue May 08 08:18:55 CEST 2012 arnekiel

A fuel oil tanker that collided with an offshore drilling rig Wednesday remains anchored off the coast of Port Aransas. The U.S. Coast Guard is awaiting a proposal from the FR8 Pride's owners on how they plan to move the tanker to shore, Coast Guard Lt. Steven Vanderlaske said. The vessel cannot be moved until a plan is approved. A representative of the tanker's owners declined to comment on the tanker's condition. The FR8 Pride was carrying an undisclosed amount of fuel oil bound for Valero Energy Corp.'s oil docks when it lost power early Wednesday near the entrance to the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The tanker struck the Rowan EXL-1, a mobile offshore drilling rig. http://www.caller.com/news/2012/may/07/oil-tanker-damaged-in-collision-remains-anchored/

Official: No risk of spill after tanker accident

Thu May 03 09:36:35 CEST 2012 arnekiel

A port official says there was no threat of an oil spill after a 750-foot tanker collided with a floating rig off the Texas Gulf Coast, tearing a hole in the ship's bow. Port of Corpus Christi operations director Tony Alejandro says the ship called the "FR8 Pride" was inbound with a load of fuel oil at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when it lost power and veered into a rig being positioned by tugboats to enter the Corpus Christi ship channel. Alejandro said there were no injuries and no threat of pollution from the accident. Source: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/state&id=8645555
