Paper washed up in Denmark

Wed Feb 19 18:55:55 CET 2020 Timsen

Significant quantities of paper have been washed up on the Danish Wadden island of Fanø. The paper was stored inside the containers that fell from the 'OOCL Rauma' on Feb 11. Besides the paper, the containers contained cardboard and milk powder. It was not known whether the powder was packaged in plastic or not. On the Danish beach the paper remains were spread over several kiloometers. The 'OOCL Rauma' shifted from the Shortsea Container Terminal North in Rotterdam to the ECT Delta Container Terminal Amazonehaven in the night of Feb 18.

It was not yet known when the opeation will be completed. Three of the lost containers contained paper rolls. Ship and cargo getting investigated

Fri Feb 14 21:41:23 CET 2020 Timsen

The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) started investigating whether the 'OOCL Rauma' was loaded correctly when it lost seven containers on the North Sea above Ameland. The inspection of the vessel started as soon as the ship had docked in the port of Rotterdam in the night of Feb 13. Two inspectors went on board immediately, together with personnel from the Port State Control and the accident analysis and were now waiting for the first findings. The research focused on various aspects. Among other things, it was checked whether the containers were properly lashed. The cargo itself is also subjected to an investigation regarding the load and its weight. In addition, it was investigated whether the cargo inside the containers was properly secured and whether the cargo papers were correct. It was not yet known when the inspection of the ship in the port of Rotterdam will be completed.
